Louisiana Rep.-elect Luke Letlow died of Covid-19, just days before the Republican was set to be sworn in as a new member of Congress, lawmakers said Tuesday. He was 41.
Mr. Letlow won a runoff election this month to replace his former boss, Republican Rep. Ralph Abraham, who represents the Fifth Congressional District in the state. Mr. Letlow had served as his chief of staff. He was set to be sworn in Jan. 3. He is survived by his wife and two young children. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said on Twitter he had spoken to Mr. Letlow’s wife, Julia, and offered his condolences. Other Louisiana officials mourned the loss.
“We are devastated to hear of Luke Letlow’s passing,” the Louisiana congressional delegation, including House Minority Whip Steve Scalise , said in a statement. “Luke had such a positive spirit, and a tremendously bright future ahead of him.” Mr. Letlow announced he had Covid-19 on his Facebook page Dec. 18. He was placed in St. Francis hospital and later transferred to Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport Academic Medical Center.

It just occurred to me that what if the swearing ceremony happens 2 or 3 weeks ago before he showed any symptoms? Are there someone else walking around the Capital maskless representing maskless districts?
He died doing what he loved — spreading a potentially deadly virus to as many Louisianians as possible. Nobody knows why Republicans decided to start licking doorknobs and toilet seats during a pandemic, but nobody could stop them in their quest to get sick.
