Künstler Brewing has opened its new Tap Haus at Hemisfair in the historic Pereida House at 502 S. Alamo St.have finally come full circle. The two will open their long-awaited Tap Haus to the public Sunday in the Pereida House at Hemisfair.
The couple had originally eyed the historic home as the potential flagship location for their brewery. But the structure, which dates to the mid 1880s, proved impossible for the equipment and alterations that would be required to install a brewery. The Deckards eventually opened Künstler in 2017 in the Lone Star District, but their friendship with the Hemisfair management team never soured.
When the Hemisfair team began looking for businesses to take over the space, the Deckards signed on. They announced plans for the Tap Haus in late 2021 with the intention of opening the following summer, but permitting delays and other logistical challenges would push that target forward by a full year.Paul Stephen/Staff
The Deckards began giving hospitality industry employees and the 200 members of Künstler's Stammtisch Klub a sneak peek at the space this week. The petite, two-room house features a stylish wooden bar illuminated by dangling Edison bulbs and a small dining room with table seating. The large back porch and patio provides additional seating and easy access to the neighboring Yanaguana Garden.
