Five Lone Star College students will soon walk the stage as the first class of graduates...

The post-secondary educational program for neurodiverse students assists them through developing independence, practicing social expectations and engage in career opportunities.

"It gave me the chance to do college, because when I tried it on my own, it was very overwhelming," Carpenter said. Next, students are given individual mentors for two years as they begin to hone in on their passions. Students can take classes from history to photography while also performing mock job interviews and doing community outreach.Carpenter's passion is advocacy. For her internship, she got to combine advocacy with her second passion, writing, by creating a blog for local homelessness resource Family Promise.
