, which went viral. “I’ve done London twice before, I’ve seen what it can be like. What I saw on Sunday was not the London Marathon.”first reported on the situation back in May, race organizers promised that they were looking into the events as part of a full investigation.
According to the email, video footage showed “aggressive driving by one clean-up vehicle,” which organizers are trying to identify and pass on to the police. They also acknowledged that abusive behavior from spectators correlated to the location of pubs around the route, which were open all day, and that “a very small number of volunteers and contractors were also shouting unhelpful comments to slower runners,” though they have not been able to identify the people involved.
“We are sorry that your race day experience was not to the standard we set ourselves,” organizers wrote in an email to 2019 participants. “As a result we would be delighted to invite you to be part of the 40th Race Day.”

Nice gesture by race organizers. How anyone can body shame another person, let alone someone who was actually running, is such a sad indictment on society. There’s way too much hatred in this world.
Forget the hecklers who likely aren't even runners. These athletes should check out ChiMarathon. The encouraging spectators & volunteers will be sure to pump you up! We love the Chicago running community.
