“Even though they were well aware of my daughter's mental health issues and her educational disabilities, they took it upon themselves without my knowledge and without my consent to socially transition her and did this for an entire year without me knowing," Landerer said. Landerer's lawyer Ernie Trakas says it's his impression that the Dover Area School District's protocol is to support a student's request to be called by a different name or pronoun not consistent with their biological sex.
The lawsuit, filed on April 3, alleges the District violated Landerer’s civil rights as a parent to make decisions about her child’s health:
