Local historian highlights Utah's baseball ties to MLB's integrated stats

“I’ve long believed the Negro Leagues were in fact major leagues, and I think it’s awesome that Major League Baseball’s recognized that now. History is very important in the United States and these stats really help tell that story in a more complete way,” Hansen said. Hansen shared background information from the early 1900’s on two African American baseball teams, the Ogden Assembly baseball team and the Salt Lake Occidentals.Historian's findings show Utah's all-Black baseball team expansion during 1900sWith the recent announcement of Negro League stats being incorporated, Hansen explained the MLB records are focusing on the years of 1920 to 1948.
