London Metals Exchange(LME) on Wednesday launched a consultation requiring producers of aluminium brands deliverable against its contracts to submit carbon emissions data by March 2025.

The proposal aims to align aluminium market with the requirement of Europe's Carbon-Border Adjustment Mechanism which applies a carbon-related cost to certainLME-approved producers of primary aluminium, aluminium alloy, North American Special Aluminium Alloy Contract ) will have to submit both Scope 1 and 2 emissions data to the exchange.

Producers shall provide these emissions data "at the point at which it becomes LME-grade material," according to the proposal.
