Dozens of Columbia University students are occupying Hamilton Hall, one of the campus buildings occupied during 1968 student protests, according to a social media post early Tuesday from Columbia Students for Justice in Palestine. Columbia — the epicenter of the weeklong pro-Palestinian protests — announced hours earlier that it had begun suspending students who refused to leave the encampment before a 2 p.m. Monday deadline set by the administration.
Another Ivy League school, Cornell University, said it was suspending student protesters who declined to move to an alternate location. In a lawsuit filed Monday, an anonymous Jewish student alleged that Columbia has failed to provide a safe learning environment during the ongoing demonstrations.
