Live-Action Spider-Man TV Universe Gets Positive Update From Sony Boss

Sony TV boss gives a positive update on the upcoming live-action Spider-Man TV universe. While Sony Pictures is continuing to build out its Spider-Man film universe, Sony Television is getting ready to launch its own on the small screen. In 2022, Sony Television confirmed that they are collaborating with Amazon and MGM+ on Silk: Spider Society for the world of streaming. The Walking Dead's Angela Kang is attached as showrunner and will bring Cindy Moon to life in her own show.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY While Silk: Spider Society is still in development, the Spider-Man TV universe will be a big priority for Sony TV. With Spider-Man TV shows in the works, Sony TV president Katherine Pope recently chatted about the prospects of the new franchise in an interview with Deadline.

It’s a huge focus certainly for all of us here, and for me in particular. I was already a fan of Angela Kang, so I’m really, really excited to be working with her on Silk. She’s just brilliant and a total pro. This is also an example of working really closely with Tom Rothman and Sanford Panitch, and the motion picture group, to make sure that we are in lockstep with them and also executing at the same level.

The biggest takeaway with the Spider-Verse, which has exploded in the comics over the years, is the multitude of alternative heroes that exist. Silk is a perfect example of how they can introduce a new Spider-hero that is fresh and has never been tackled in live-action. As successful as Spider-Man: No Way Home was, it also pointed out that Peter has had his story told three times already on the big screen.

Time will tell which Spider-Verse characters they will use beyond Silk: Spider Society. It's also likely that Sony will want to see how Silk's solo show does before they begin unveiling more plans about the interconnected franchise. The show's success may also determine whether or not Sony will end up connecting the Spider-Man TV shows to the movies. Hopefully, as 2023 gets further in, more details about the live-action Spider-Man TV universe will begin to emerge.
