Roderick Robinson, who rushed for 2,378 yards and 37 touchdowns this season, has been named the California Player of the Year by MaxPreps

Roderick Robinson, who capped a tremendous senior season at Lincoln High by running for 218 yards and four touchdowns in the State 1-AA Championship game against Concord De La Salle, has been named State Player of the Year by MaxPreps.“I honestly don’t know if he realizes what he has done.”What the 6-foot-2, 230-pound Robinson did was rush 217 times for 2,378 yards and 37 TDs this season, leading Lincoln to a 13-1 record and the school’s first state championship.

Committed to play at Georgia next season, Robinson is in the mix for MaxPreps’ National Player of the Year. The previous National Player of the Year list includes: QB Terrelle Pryor of Jeannette High in Pennsylvania; QB Garrett Gilbert from Lake Travis High in Texas; RB Derrick Henry of Yulee High in Florida; QB Kyler Murray of Allen High in Texas; QB JT Daniels of Santa Ana Mater Dei; QB DJ Uiagalelei of Bellflower St.

“We knew Rod was dealing with a hamstring, and we didn’t want to hurt him anymore,” Dunn said. “So we had plans to give him two or three carries, use him as a decoy to keep defenses honest.Robinson rushed 22 times for 117 yards and a TD against Carlsbad in the San Diego Section Open Division championship game at Snapdragon Stadium. He had 16 carries for 181 yards and four scores in the Southern California Regional championship win over Sierra Canyon.

“Honestly, if he was 100 percent healthy, those 100-yard games are 200 yards. And the 200-yard games are 300.”
