have all touched on the healing power of the art form. Over the course of the pandemic, actress Lili Reinhart has also taken this idea to heart. Thestar says she has found comfort in journaling and writing poetry during the past few months; she has been journaling since she was young.
“I’ve always enjoyed journaling, but I never really took it as seriously as I have the last couple of years,” she says. “Just the last year in general, or since the pandemic began, I’ve been writing a lot. My journals are where my mind can just kind of.
Even with her new book coming out tomorrow, Reinhart says she has been continuing to write poems in between shoots for the show. “I’ve been writing a lot during my quarantine in Canada,” she says. “The past couple nights have been me just sitting outside on the patio and writing.” Below, Reinhart talks poetry, healing, and what brings her hope. Plus, an exclusive poem from the book.I find myself having a lot of the same repetitive thoughts cycling in my head, and writing things down has always been a way for me to exercise those thoughts. When I was younger, I was the type of person who loved making lists. I really liked listing things out if I felt depressed or sad; I would write a list of all things that were bothering me, so I could analyze them.
I don’t even like to consider myself a poet. It feels fraudulent in a way, because I’m not one of the greats. I’m not writing this heavy prose, beautifully rhymed, metered masterpiece. It’s very much my idea of poetry, the poetry I started reading when I was 16 on Tumblr. It was very sound-bitey and short, little fragments. These beautiful, little, even sentences that just struck me, and were so beautiful and romantic. That’s the poetry that I can relate to.
