UPDATE: Tex Hill Middle School seventh-grader Lila Smethurst graduated 'magma cum laude' to win Season 12 of the 'Kids Baking Championship' Monday night on the Food Network. In the final round, Smethurst created a chocolate polar volcano cake with penguins and whale tales. Judge Duff Goldman tasted the cake and teased Smethurst saying, 'I hate to tell you this Lila, I really, really like your cake.' One amazing chocolate cake, judge Valerie Bertinelli added.
Three bakers will advance to the finale, during which they will be tasked with making volcano cakes inspired by science fair experiments.
