Letters to the Editor

Readers note the second anniversary of the Uvalde shooting; discuss the toll road stories; support keeping IH 345; and agree that John McCaa should run for office.They were kids 9, 10 and 11 years of age. All anxiously growing into their next stage. They loved to dance, play and run. They were bubbly, loving, kind, sweet and fun. They were happy, silly, ambitious, focused and smart.All liked to draw, paint and shape clay into art. They had favorite colors, numbers, and flowers.

Any contract of $4.7 billion for the purpose of reducing congestion should require data to monitor and confirm performance specified in the contract. Necessary data is detailed managed lanes volume over time, corresponding toll rates and vehicle speeds on the associated free lanes. But it appears that the Texas Department of Transportation does not have that information or is unwilling to make it public.

While the proposal also results in a slower increase to the tax base, it puts the onus on taxing authorities to justify increases to tax rates and allows voters to have their say at the ballot box instead of increased and unwarranted tax burdens based on theoretical valuations that property owners are unable to control.Re: “Dallas still needs Interstate 345 — Freeway that divided Black neighborhoods now connects to economic opportunity for the region,” by Mike Grace, Sunday Opinion.
