Re: “Effort targets city of Austin — Frisco Republican files legislation to replace capital with a ‘district,’” Nov. 21 Metro story. I believe that 140 days...

Readers hope the Texas Legislature focuses on important issues; urge keeping DACA; agree nurses need protection; worry about online safety for children; discuss the Second Amendment; and draw attention to redistricting in a North Texas area.

The bill will likely never get out of committee , but any time spent on such bills cheats the taxpayers out of the Legislature’s precious time to consider the real business of the people.Bill Shipp, GarlandRe: “Keeping Texas’ well-oiled machine running — Congress must act on DACA or our state stands to lose thousands of jobs,” by Chris Wallace, Richard Perez, Laura Huffman and Bob Harvey, Nov. 23 Opinion.

However, DACA is once again in jeopardy, as the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled it illegal. While my protections stand for now, our fate lies in the hands of yet another court. Meanwhile, tens of thousands of eligible Dreamers who could contribute millions to our economy can no longer apply.

We have security at many venues — art museums, stadiums and concert halls, to name a few. Sadly, the time is now to have manned metal detectors at all health care facilities so that incidents such as what happened at Methodist Dallas never have a chance to happen again.Re: “Parents, you can protect kids online — Take steps to ensure the safety of children navigating the internet,” by Brent Dusing, Nov. 26 Opinion.

I’m curious if all those parents so intent on controlling school boards spend much time trying to limit or control what their kids do online. Seems like that’s a bigger problem for all of us.Re: “Are our schools failing boys? Imbalances in incarceration, murder and suicide in young men suggest they are,” by Patrick B. Whalen, Tuesday Opinion.The issue, in my opinion, is not our “masculine nature.
