“But the bottom line is that whatever law existed at the time was sacrificed and the people, who thought they had won, really lost,” writes Dan in Springdale.

We are on the knife edge of destruction and history does not record many examples where the civilized rule of law won.

When the mob turned against the government in the French Revolution, the mob won. The “Reign of Terror” followed. When Oliver Cromwell turned against the government in the English Civil War, Cromwell won. The head of state of England, Charles I, and many other English citizens, lost their heads. When Vladimir Lenin led communists and anarchists against the Russian government, Lenin and the mob won. Decades of death and corruption defined Russia.

In all of these cases, a powerful case can be made in favor of the mob. But the bottom line is that whatever law existed at the time was sacrificed and the people, who thought they had won, really lost.
