Mullet Toss returns this weekend for 37th annual event at the Flora-Bama.

For 37 years, dead fish have been flying from the state of Florida and into Alabama every April in what has become as much of a springtime tradition along the Gulf Coast as Opening Day for professional baseball.

Indeed, the Interstate Mullet Toss, dubbed the Gulf Coast’s “Greatest Beach Party,” is expected to draw around 30,000 people over the next three days. Today’s event kicks off at 10 a.m. After this weekend, the fish will be donated to the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo or Alligator Alley in Summerdale where they will be “fed to the animal,” Parnell said.
