Legendary NHL play-by-play announcer Mike 'Doc' Emrick is retiring from the broadcast booth after 47 years

Emrick, 74, has served as the lead play-by-play voice for the NHL on NBC for the last 15 years and is considered the preeminent voice of the league. While he will no longer be calling games, he will continue to contribute to NBC sports by writing and narrating video essays, according to a news release by the NHL.

He would go on to work for the Flyers and the New Jersey Devils over the next three decades before joining NBC Sports."Simply, incredible. Enjoy your retirement, Doc," the NJ Devils tweeted."#ThankYouDoc for your contribution to hockey and being part of amazing memories and moments, like this one," the Flyers tweeted."Congratulations and enjoy retirement.
