As the Rangers prepare for the heart of the offseason shopping season and the bazaar known as the Winter Meetings in early December, we take a look around the...

: More of what has happened for most of the last decade: A whole lot of nothing. The Rangers started 13 different left fielders in 2022 and they produced a .577 OPS. It was the worst OPS for a group of left fielders of any team in the league. By 30 points. Since 2015, Rangers left fielders have produced a .701 OPS, which ranks 28th in the majors. It is traditionally an offensive-centric position. Perhaps the most encouraging development was the arrival of Bubba Thompson in August.

It’s why a lefty hitter such as Michael Conforto, Brandon Nimmo or Andrew Benintiendi might make some sense, though none of those guys are likely to sign to play in a platoon. The Rangers also tried to create some outfield platoons in 2022 with left-handed hitting Brad Miller and Kole Calhoun. And that did not work out. The Rangers have also reportedly checked in on Mitch Haniger, who is a right-handed hitter and has played predominantly in right field.

Why this Rangers’ brutal loss is even worse than the othersThe game unraveled, the Rangers unraveled and now it is fair to wonder whether this season will unravel. They ended up with 2 top of the draft (1st and 2nd) picks and both guys didn't end up being elite players. Lafrenière is very good, Kappo is good. Having neither of them being elite players has set the team back. The NJ Devils draft Jack Hughes 1 and of course he's pretty elite. Maybe it’s the rainbow stick.
