Steph Curry is a nine-time NBA All-Star who has won four NBA titles, two NBA MVP awards and one NBA Finals MVP, but there’s still a significant piece missing from his trophy case: an Olympic gold medal.
If LeBron James has his wish, Curry will try to change that when he joins James on Team USA for the Olympic Games in Paris next summer., James has begun recruiting some of the NBA’s biggest stars to join him for what could be one last dance for a handful of veterans like Curry. In addition to Curry, James is reportedly recruiting Kevin Durant, Anthony Davis, Jayson Tatum and Draymond Green to join the team. Devin Booker, Damian Lillard, De’Aaron Fox and Kyrie Irving are also considering playing,Curry has never before participated in the Olympics. He’s competed in six of the last nine NBA finals, which typically wrap up just before the Olympics begin in the summer.
The games begin on July 26, 2024. Team USA is also expected to have a full training camp and an international preseason tour beforehand. If the Warriors were to make another deep playoff run next year, it could leave Curry, who will be 36, little time to rest But next summer will be different. Not only might it be the last chance for James, who will be 39, and Durant, who will be 35, to capture one more gold medal, but it’s also a chance for Curry to join forces with Warriors coach Steve Kerr, who took over the Team USA head coaching position from Gregg Popovich after his group captured gold in the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo.
