If passed, the legislation would impose a 1,000% tax on any type of semi-automatic weapon, making the firearms prohibitively expensive for most would-be buyers.

and Buffalo last month.

The new bill, introduced by Rep. Don Beyer of Virginia on Tuesday, comes as a group of 20 senators announced Sunday that they had on the key priorities of a deal to reform the nation's gun laws. The 1,000% tax on semi-automatic weapons would"give the Senate an option for further action to address the epidemic of gun violence" beyond the reform already in the works, Beyer said in a statement.

Called the"Assault Weapons Excise Act," the proposal would add the hefty tax to"large-capacity ammunition feeding devices and semi-automatic assault weapons, according to the of the bill. If enacted, the semi-automatic rifle allegedly used by the Uvalde shooter would cost $18,700, instead of its current retail price of $1,870.

Go back to the roots of US foundation: Militia with black powder muskets ! 🤔

So the rich are the only ones who can defend themselves? Cool thanks democrats, once again screwing the little guy...

What about insurance and biennial licensing?

This law will never pass. Guns protect more people than they kill. Taking guns aways from law abiding citizen will never happen. An all out war will break out. We need to vote these lawmakers out, all of them.

It’s what Democrats do! We won’t raise your taxes ( we will just make everything so expensive you can’t afford to live)!

Aren’t all guns semi automatic except an automatic weapon that illegal. So hand guns fall into semi automatic.

They can always buy weapons from the under ground markets. The cartels are always willing to make income.

All high-powered semi automatics are all for hunting humans nothing else we don't need them on our planet and maybe more children will live

fail

Price ammunition as high as it can go as well...Chris Rocks' idea and it's GENIUS. People will be deterred if a bullet costs them $1000 each

Jolene understands that hard work has a future payoff but Laziness pays off now.

everytime there's a mass shooting that takes headline news, weapon manufacturers hype up about buy now. they will take your guns away. a friend of mine just bought a 30 bullets magazine (not sure I got the terms right). gun nuts eat that hype up like there's no tomorrow

Such ignorance. And pricing someone out of their Rights is unconstitutional. If you think people are just going to lay down or turn them in, you've got a violent awakening.

Taking guns from law abiding citizens... That's something to brag about

Except the rich, I’m no expert but that wasn’t the intent of the second amendment, maybe we should impose a tax of news organizations of 1 million percent maybe then we would have responsible news outlets and not partisan hacks

Banning all sales of new semi-automatic weapons and doing nothing are both better than this. A gun licensing scheme where people are required to take free training courses and pass tests over time to get licensed to own progressively more dangerous weapons would be better yet.

So…just rich people get them. Just in time for the apocalypse.

Unconstitutional!

Oh sure we should do that with weed too

This would make it so only the rich and criminals would have guns. Then there are the rich criminals.

In EU, there will be a ban for production of cars fuelled by any hydrocarbon after 2035. But, not for luxury cars such as Ferrari ect. because if you have enough money, environment is not so serious problem as it is. Dear Americans, do not go that way with guns, it won`t help.

La Floresta Pearson LaFloresta2016 Replying to Great! Only the rich crazy people would then be able to buy these weapons and kill people in mass shootings! 0.o

So poor people don't have the same rights as rich people?

can't wait for it to get insta-shut down by courts.

I like the idea

It's about time. I've been saying, if they can do it to cigarettes, they can do it to guns, for years.

I wish the tax would be applicable to all assault weapons bought previously before the bill was enacted.

Yes!!!!!

The criminals will get theirs for free.

FDR put a tax on Thompson submachine guns in the 1930s to cut down on mass shootings by gangsters. So this isn't unprecedented or an infringement on the 2ndAmendment. Since FDR did it, the courts will uphold this law.

When children are slaughtered in school & your reaction is: 'Don't you dare think about taking my guns!!' rather than 'How do we stop this from happening again' Then we don't have a difference in political opinion. We have a difference in morality. GUNS ARE the problem!

100,000 dead from drug overdoses in 2021! Zero tax!

Keep your eyes on the prize Trumpers - Democrats own highest inflation, own highest ⛽ gas prices, own highest crime in US Cities ever and zero baby 🍼 formula an they don't have any time left to correct any before November.

So, guns just for the rich. Yeah. Genius.

yay a ploy to generate more revenue for a stagnant, work-for-a-paycheck government to blow on god knows what while pitching it behind a cause most wouldn’t feel right not getting behind 😐🙄

It won't go anywhere, unfortunately.

They got it backwards, tax the crap out of ammo & ammo reloading supplies.

That's the way to do it. Doesn't affect the 2nd Amendment in any way. Now do the same with bullets but make it 100,000%. Doesn't stop them from having guns, they just have to pay more for them. Excellent solution.

If you dwell in the city you have no need whatsoever to own a semiautomatic weapon.

This will not even pass the house. Not all Democrats will not vote to impose 1000% on semi-auto shotguns used to hunt ducks.

Good

That's taxation without representation. We fought a Revolution over that. Want another?

The NRA Republicans won’t vote for it.

This is exactly how to have centrist voters get in line with conservative politicians that are standing up for law abiding firearm owners.

Shall not be infringed. Smd

Ridiculous! This country needs a ban on all assault guns effective immediately. Also if someone is in possession of or found to have an assault gun on their property should be punishable by a felony and jail time.

Only the tyrannical government and its Elites will be able to afford it!

Utah Makes Browning../

Lol ok🤣😂

Yeah, let’s keep them in rich people’s hands instead of banning them.. Wonder why that would be a thing? 🤔

Poor people win again! Thanks Democrats

Hell yes! It's like that Jim Jeffries bit. Semi-autos cost like $36,000 in Australia. If you're a criminal, what do you need a gun for? You've got $36,000! You're a great little saver, keep going!

Lawmakers should like that, pay to play.

It won’t stop it. Criminals on the other hand will find a way around it. Yet democrats don’t or won’t recognize a real major problem. Fentanyl deaths. Over a 100,000 the past year.

Required liability insurance for assault weapons and let the insurance companies sort it out.

It’s all for show; they know the legislation won’t pass. People will still use it to fuel their hope or rage and score fake internet points, but, all it really does is give politicians something to stand on when the campaigning starts again. As I f it ever truly stops.

Stupid tricks like this appeal to leftists sense of smug superiority, but will fail in court. Just another waste of time.

Imagine that, the government wants to prevent poor people from owning weapons while inflation soars and a recession looms
