L.A. schools will reopen to teachers, staff and students on Monday for the first day of classes - and many are preparing for a new reality in which mask mandates and weekly COVID-19 testing are no longer required.

Thursday, dropping the recommendation that Americans quarantine themselves if they come into close contact with an infected person."The current conditions of this pandemic are very different from those of the last two years," said the CDC's Greta Massetti, an author of the guidelines.

It's the dilemma that precedes LAUSD Superintendent Alberto Carvalho, and one of the biggest for the families he serves. The district's policy on masking is that coverings are "strongly recommended" for indoor spaces at schools and workplaces, and schools will have surgical masks available upon request.

They never should have been required. They did nothing.

Only mean that more kids get sick, the parent get sick, the less adult working… because people stop doig what work

LAUSD is garbage.

Silly rabbit, it's not a new reality.

Long past time!

A 'new reality' Come on ABC7 It's called RETURNING TO NORMAL!! Stop w/the silliness!

“A new reality.” You’re better gaslighters than at least 80% of abusive narcissists.

Long overdue

Oh wow the teachers finally graced us with their presence for in-person instruction, you know shyte we the taxpayers pay them to do, and not sit at home and f..k around on a laptop all day with pajama pants on

There they go injecting new vocabulary to make it seem to us its one thing but they subliminally mean another. Just making sure I'm up to speed with all the BS.

You mean the ‘new reality’ teachers had when they went to school? The one where they were never forced to cover their faces as a condition of receiving an education? Did these same teachers also have to test for flu/strep weekly to attend school? No? Weird.

There goes my commute come Monday

LA schools will open to teachers, staff taking votes in class, shaming, bullying, and pressuring kids to mask. It’s happening in schools that opened this week. I hope the unmasked kids will fight back

All except for the jackboots at Granada Hills Charter and New West Charter, who feel entitled to ban children and parents from campus unless vxxed with this shot based on an extinct strain, which prevents infection & transmission in precisely no one.

Thats a lot of words to say, 'normal'.

It’s called normal. Not a “new reality.”

Oh, my word. That 'new reality' sounds like what life was like before the Covid bullshit - Downright terrifying!

lol, teachers so pissed right now.

Public pressure on these leftist school districts is forcing school boards to follow real science rather than fake science from WeAreCTA & BillNye who is not a real science guy. He only lies about that on TV.

It’s been like that for a year in other places. Just Covidholic States still have these idiotic (and useless) rules

🥳🥳🥳

'LA. schools will reopen to teachers, staff and students on Monday- and are returning to pre-COVID normalcy.' There. Fixed it for you.

Thank God

No, not 'new' reality ... just, reality 🤷‍♀️

LAUSD didn’t have masks for the final six weeks of last school year either, and nothing bad happened.

And they will be fine and live happily ever after.

Can't believe it was ever required in the first place. We will look back on this time as being a huge mistake.

About time

The latest joke is LASchools 'requiring' students to take an at home Covid test, and relying on an 'honor system' for parents to report a positive test. For the same illness that had them threatening kids who didn't get the vaccine. Suddenly Covid isn't that serious anymore.

Some districts here in LA county already doing that: optional masks, not testing, no vaxx, and no outdoor meals.. why this “new reality” is just an issue for LAUSD schools?

my school did exactly that also. in june. 1 month later half the students and staff were out sick. we went back online until november. so.. mask up if you’re that scared and just wait it out. this happens every year. we “open” then close back

You mean normality.

Instead of “new reality”.. how about “now that we’re back to reality”, like how things were before the China virus!

The Branch Covidians are having a grand mal seizure

Normalcy = “New reality”

Good! Kids deserve normalcy.

Are COVID-19 Cases Going Down Because Infections Aren't Being Reported? The COVID case numbers are far from complete, and state health officials know it. Blah blah blah It’s hard to find out how to report, and the state only accepts your report if you were positive in the last 24 hours. When you are sick, the last thing you want to deal with is the horrible reporting website, if you are even able to find it. So, yeah, nobody is reporting.

CDC updates its COVID-19 guidelines in sweeping overhaulThe changes come as new, highly contagious variants spread rapidly through the country - including in North Texas, where several counties have high community transmission according to the CDC. Well you just reported the CDC dropped screening and quarantine for the school year for COVID. So is it or is it not an issue? This tweet is very different from the news coverage. The news covered it as a good thing, saying outright that this would help 'Every American' get back to their previous lives. Funny how you're forgetting the approx. 9,972,000 immunocompromised Americans who are still at risk.

CDC drops COVID-19 quarantine for close contacts and 6-foot distancingThe nation’s top public health agency on Thursday relaxed its COVID-19 guidelines, dropping the recommendation that Americans quarantine themselves if they come into close contact with an infected person. We will never get out of this pandemic. The long term health effects of people getting COVID-19 over and over are going to continue to wreak havoc on the economy and healthcare system. Didn't we have to shut down the entire country and print a bunch of money we didn't have, just to combat this horror? Simply dropping 'the solution' to a public health crisis when the disease is still active speaks volumes about the people who recommended it in the first place. Covid spreads so quick, everyone must quarantine regardless of vaccination or mask status
