The Biden administration plans changes in federal regulations to encourage voluntary conservation projects on private land, partly by shielding owners from punishment if their actions kill or harm small numbers of imperiled species

Endangered Species Conservation

The idea is to make landowners allies rather than adversaries as climate change, urban sprawl and other trends jeopardize more animals and plants. The United Nations says up to 1 million species could go extinct worldwide, many in the next few decades.“We believe very strongly that collaborative conservation is the way forward,” U.S. Interior Secretary Deb Haaland said in an interview. She added in a statement that partnerships would “set us on a course for continued recovery and resilience.

“These are tools that are valuable and popular, but are largely constrained by the fact that they are time consuming and expensive to negotiate,” said Jonathan Wood, a vice president at the Property and Environment Research Center, which supports a free-market approach to environmentalism. "We anticipate that these improvements will encourage more individuals and companies to engage in these voluntary programs, thereby generating greater conservation results overall,” the Fish and Wildlife Service said in a regulatory filing.

But an agreement that doesn't require permanent conservation measures “sends a message to non-federal landowners that species conservation is ultimately not your obligation,” Rohlf said. “It says that hopefully we'll recover a species somewhere else than your land. And that may or may not be true or possible."

Top U.S. House Republican McCarthy wants compromise on debt ceiling, cuts from BidenRepublican U.S. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy called on Democratic President Joe Biden to agree to compromises and spending cuts, as the two remain deadlocked over raising the nation's $31.4 trillion debt ceiling. McCarthy spoke on Monday before Biden is set to give the annual State of the Union address to a joint session of Congress on Tuesday, aiming to get ahead of the president and reinforce his role as the leading congressional negotiator. The White House has said Biden will discuss federal spending cuts with Republicans, but only after the debt ceiling is lifted, while McCarthy has said Republicans will only lift the ceiling if Biden agrees to spending cuts. Cuts must happen first. Common sense. And you can’t trust this liar of a president anyway. Stop lifting our debt ceiling!!!! Biden: Clean bill McCarthy: We demand cuts! B: What do you want to cut? M: IDK. What do YOU want to cut? B: Nothing M: Biden refuses to negotiate with us.

How Should an Older President Think About a Second Term?No sitting President has been as old as Joe Biden. “It’s no insult to President Biden, nor is it ageist, to write that all men are mortal, and that older men are more mortal than younger ones,” Jeffrey Frank writes. This no longer matters. Sleepy Joe was Dems' designated trump killer (figuratively speaking). Yet Mr. Koch reportedly came out publicly over the weekend against the tax-cut-giving tyrant who did so much for the 1%. You can stick a fork in trump. He's done. Joe can retire now. More mortal? Tell that to JFK He shouldn’t

Texas threatens to sue Biden over 'unlawful, top-down' eco rules threatening farmers, energy producersTexas attorney general tells Biden: 'This isn’t going to fly in Texas' This surprises me. Opinion | Biden’s economic success may reset the 2024 raceOpinion by Jennifer Rubin: A still-humming economy puts Biden in the driver’s seat for reelection. Hint' recently the 'seasonally adjusted' numbers added 400k jobs from the census that don't actually exist. They added 900k people of which they said 800k (88%) had jobs. In reality, only 60% of the people in the U.S. are working. Washington Post still lying to America. Have you forgot about the sky high inflation, 64% of Americans living paycheck to paycheck, the border crisis, crime rising everywhere, the liberal agenda, need any more Frank
