A Susquehanna Valley city is joining a worldwide call for a ceasefire in the Middle East . Lancaster City Council voted 5-1 Tuesday to approve a resolution calling for a ceasefire.Dozens of people came out to the meeting to voice their opinions on the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas .Council members heard two hours of public comment, with more than forty people coming to the podium. Some supporters have been pushing for the council to adopt the resolution since May.
It does not seek to stop Hamas from using its own citizens as human shields, placing them directly in harm's way,' one man told council.'By passing this resolution, we send a powerful message that our city stands behind our moniker of being a welcoming city. We demonstrate our commitment to standing with those who have been marginalized and oppressed, and we condemn the very suffering that leads people to find refuge in our city in the first place,' a woman said.
