Moore places second in long jump at U.S. Olympic Trials, Brown takes third in discus in dramatic fashion.
Jasmine Moore competes in the women's long jump final during the U.S. Track and Field Olympic Team Trials Saturday, June 29, 2024, in Eugene, Ore. Former Mansfield Lake Ridge phenom Jasmine Moore should have a chance to represent the United States in two events at the Paris Olympics in August after finishing second in the women’s long jump final with a mark of 6.98 meters to advance to the Olympics for the first time in that event.
Moore was in the lead for rounds two through four, but she finished behind Tara Davis-Woodhall, a former Texas star who posted her winning jump of 7.00 meters in Round 5 to make her second Olympic team. Davis-Woodhall came into the final with the second-best jump in the world in 2024 at 7.18 meters , and she won a world championship indoors this year.Alexis Brown from Kennedale suffered heartbreak in the long jump, being denied a spot on the Olympic team in the final round.
Moore competed in the triple jump at the Olympics in 2021, finishing 23rd in the qualifying round. That has been her best event, as sheFormer Arlington Seguin and LSU star Tonea Marshall advanced to the final of the women’s 100-meter hurdles by running 12.36 in Saturday’s semifinals. That tied Alaysha Johnson and Masai Russell for the best time out of the three heats.
