L.A. Metro has begun reducing bus and rail service due to a shortage of bus drivers and train operators.

FILE — A man hops on a Metro Red Line train in North Hollywood on May 20, 2021. Metro said the reduction of operators has occurred due to a “perfect storm” that includes the national labor shortage, attrition greater than hiring and employees contracting COVID-19.

Bus operators began to leave the agency at higher rates than they were being hired in July 2021. Since that time, 356 bus drives have left the agency and only 207 were hired. Metro officials said the cancellations disproportionately impact “equity focused communities,” particularly in South Los Angeles.Putin Recognizes Independence Of Ukraine Breakaway Regions, Escalating Conflict With West

The agency has about 3,119 bus operators, and needs to add an additional 448. It’s also down 28 rail operators, with only 298 currently working as of Jan. 27.

Major L.A. County bus and rail service cuts begin todayBuses and trains will run fewer times as the L.A. County Metropolitan Transportation Authority implements an effort to address driver shortages. Yep welcome to LAhell Where you pay top tier rents and huge high priced homes Only to have the worse public services systems and ever Is LOS ANGELES still in PERS? If we get out of that than we've less burdensome RETIREMENT to have to fund & NO GUARANTEES either. So what are they waiting for, oh wait they're self serving & will stay in PERS because of it's cushy GURARANTEES. Maybe if they enforced fare payments and ejected the non-payers, that would help the financial situation.
