L.A. gas prices reach $4 a gallon for the first time in four years

A driver closes the cap after filling up at a Los Angeles gas station on April 9. The average price per gallon in the Los Angeles and Long Beach area increased to $4.069 this week, compared with $3.888 last week.

“I don’t think $4.15 a gallon by next week would be out of the extraordinary,” said Dan McTeague, senior petroleum analyst at GasBuddy, a fuel-tracking website that has calculated a 70-cent increase in the past month alone. “This may be longer than expected and I wouldn’t look for any short-term relief.”

“When you have unplanned issues crop up on top, that creates a very tight supply situation, and so that’s what we’re dealing with right now,” said Marie Montgomery, spokeswoman for AAA of Southern California. “The thing that’s going to relieve this is when we see some of these planned maintenance issues start to resolve themselves and when things are going back online.”

Each year California drivers consume 14 billion gallons of expensive, polluting and dangerous gasoline. The price for fuel will go down when California partners with that safely stores highly competitive clean energy inside raw seawater 'on-board' vehicles

Maybe re-think our auto-dependent infrastructure. Gas isn’t even the biggest cost of driving. Tally up the true costs of: ins, depreciation, “free” street parking, pollution, CO2, traffic accidents, productivity lost to 1 hr commutes, artificial housing scarcity etc. Cars suck.
