Sen. Amy Klobuchar said Sunday that she doesn't believe she and her fellow female senators running for president"would be standing on that stage if we had the experience" of Democratic candidate and South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg.
The Minnesota Democrat told CNN's Jake Tapper on"State of the Union" that while she believes Buttigieg is qualified, she sees herself as the better candidate."I'm the one from the Midwest that has actually won in a statewide race over and over again," in part by attracting voters on the fence, Klobuchar said. "Those are the kind of voters I've won and that is not true of Mayor Pete -- that is just a fact," Klobuchar continued.
She is not wrong. Sarah Palin had a similar level of political experience to Buttigieg and it was disastrous.
I've been thinking more about this and one of the things that sets Buttigieg above Klobuchar is that he would never resort to this sort of attack.
amyklobuchar opinion’s actually sexist. In reality, Buttigieg’s mayoral (executive) experience is far more apropos for one seeking the Presidency than the non-executive experience of a Senator. Winning a statewide election falls far short of executive experience.

Mayor Pete is brilliant, well spoken, and light-years ahead of the other Democratic candidates. Klobuchar is an irrelevant candidate lacking charm, intellect, and presence. The only thing she has in common with Pete is they both like dick. That’s it.
Or you’re not running a good campaign. Let’s look at Amy V Pete and their campaigns. Pete’s also gay, and that’s not exactly something working in his favor with everyone. He’s leading because he’s not “complaining” and he’s not living in lala land with his policies.

He has different experiences. Life experiences, AND he signed up for the military after graduating from Harvard. He didn’t have to do it for money or an education, he did it because of a sense of duty. Can’t say that about a lot of politicians who seek to “serve our country”
No need for the gender card. The fact is that for Buttigieg, a small town mayor with no executive experience is a candidate for President speaks to the fact that either the public and/or the candidates have no clue what it means to be the top executive of the country.

Honestly, it’s an interesting argument. But I can’t help but think she’s only bringing it up now because she’s polling so low. Any candidate is successful when they have good ideas (like Warren and Sanders) and when they are part of the club (like Biden).

The irony is thick for Klobuchar, someone with zero executive or military experience, to be making this point. Perhaps it has more to do with polling at 2% and not raising enough money to stay in the race.
