New Zealand's finmin has asked its central bank whether house prices should be considered when setting monetary policy. Politicians would do better to rely on obvious tools, even if they are politically unpopular, says swahapattanaik

The New Zealand government has written to the central bank asking for its advice on whether the latter could factor in house prices as part of its monetary policy remit, Finance Minister Grant Robertson said on Nov. 24.

Robertson proposed taking house prices into account while formulating monetary policy, along with the bank's existing mandate of inflation and maximum employment.
