Kings prospect and Ontario Reign forward T.J. Tynan has signed a two-year contract extension worth up to $787,500 per season.
Tynan finished tied for sixth in AHL scoring in 2021 and this year he finished second with 98 points, all in nine fewer games than scoring champion Andrew Poturalski of the Chicago Wolves. Tynan’s points-per-game average was the highest in the AHL in 15 years, and his 84 assists were the third-best total ever for a single campaign.
While the Kings have college-aged prospects with huge bodies and even bigger billing, like Quinton Byfield and Samuel Helenius, Tynan’s extension keeps the 30-year-old, 5-foot-8 center in one of the most competitive prospects pools in the NHL. Tynan, originally a third-round pick by the Columbus Blue Jackets, has played 21 games for three franchises in the past five years, with no two stints coming in consecutive seasons and just one point recorded.
