The homeless crisis will be among several topics discussed at a public safety meeting hosted by the King County Sheriff’s Office in Burien on Monday, May 6, 2024.
Sheriff Patti Cole-Tindall will join Burien Police Department Chief Ted Boe and several others to discuss ways to respond to people struggling with mental health and drug addiction. Several panelists have been invited to lend their expertise to the dialogue, including Susan Kroll, a mental health co-responder, Lisa Daugaard with Purpose, Dignity, Action, as well as Aaron Burkhalter from LEAD, which handles diversion referrals for low-level offenders.
Community members who spoke to KOMO News said they are concerned the public safety meeting will be more talk without setting a concrete course of action.Monday’s meeting is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Highline Performing Arts Center, which is at Highline High School in Burien. The public safety meeting overlaps with a scheduled Burien City Council meeting that gets underway at 6 p.m. at City Hall.
