Kim Jones has reinvented a classic Dior design

’s heritage, paying homage to the past while pushing things forward is no easy task. Lean in too heavily, and you risk being perceived as out of touch; lurch too far into the future, however, and you could alienate yourself from the rich history. It’s quite the balancing act, but it’s one that the residents of 30 Avenue Montaigne have always proven themselves dab hands.

Just take a look at Artistic Director ofFirst introduced in 1967 by then-creative director Marc Bohan, the monogram pattern quickly became a keystone of Dior’s visual identity. It’s since appeared on everything from canvas luggage to the steps of the Dior Monsieur boutique opened in Paris in 1974, and reinterpreted by those that have helmed the label in Monsieur Bohan’s wake.

Isn’t that all Kim Jones does at Dior is “reinvent classics” ?
