The comeback attempt by Westfield was stirring, but the ending was just a little too predictable based upon what had been occurring all night between the pipes of Summit’s goal.
“He bailed us out the whole game. Every shot that was a good shot, he made the save,” senior defenseman Carter Shallcross said. “He’s been playing like this the whole season. He’s one of the big reasons we’ve been playing so well.” Marshall pumped life into Westfield’s quest when he gobbled up a ground ball the defensive box and legged out a long clear for a dazzling transition goal with his pole early in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to 5-3.
To a degree, that analyses was on the money. But Kievit kind of made things clear from the second quarter when he made several astonishing saves at the doorstep, that the final say of this game would belong to him.
