“They got 10 slots, they can’t give one to the biggest fucking movie of, like, the last three years?” he argued. “Man, and they’re like, ‘Why won’t anyone watch this show?’ Like fucking make a populist choice, fuck, man. You got how many slots? Throw in“Fucking poor kid’s always getting crapped on and shit, show Peter Parker some fucking love. I’m not even being facetious, with as many movies as they now nominate for best picture. It used to be five? …” he added before the livestream cut out.
not being nominated by the Academy, and we got tossed off of the YouTube. Tie those two things together. The truth lies somewhere out there.”

lmao just remembered this dude crying watching supergirl
he should try making a good movie
Been thinking about this a lot today. The word “populist” is so weird here. Of the BP nominees I’ve seen (Power of the Dog, West Side Story, Dune, Kind Richard, Licorice Pizza, Don’t Look Up), well, they are all populist, accessible to anyone & a couple of them made good money.
7 of the ten nominees are extremely populist easy to swallow crowd pleasers. The fact they don’t have a line of happy meal toys doesn’t mean they’re elitist
Popular movies to get an award: it's called 'Making a lot of money.'
The Oscars are a marketing tool for quality, often unknown films. Spider-Man, or any of the millions of other superhero movies, doesn’t need that boost.
He’s right, folks.
Does anyone watch the Oscars anymore?
They don’t want a popular vote, then they’d have to acknowledge that anime exists
into the Spiderverse was amazing and was awarded. But, NWH feels like nostalgia/fan service in presenting its parallel universe finale just as Avengers Endgame did fan service/callbacks in its time travel finale. It doesn’t feel inspired. It feels calculated and manipulative.
You mean like the People's choice awards? Oh, wait.
The nominated Dune. The film was quite populist and popular.
Gad what a man-child. I mean, I enjoy wolfing down greasy burgers but I don’t demand they get Michelin stars.
And that would be needed, why? So that every year a movie with the biggest fanbase for a character or subject can keep winning the award regardless, how good its achievements in actual artistic technical merit & performances? ...thats some major fanboy mentality, right there! 🙄
Smoke some more dope at the IMDb yacht
Not required. NWH relies on nostalgia than a solid script.
I’d argue for the Best Documentary, Best Foreign, and Best Animated winners getting added and then voting on Best Picture, as a sort-of “semifinal round” I’d also argue for tick, tick… BOOM! or In the Heights before Spider-Man. Or Spender. Or Zola. Or hell - The Snyder Cut.
I’m down with this but MCU and Disney would monopolize this category til the end of time.
Spider-Man: No Way Home is on the same level as Schindler's List & Ben-Hur!
If no one is watching or complain about it then Why not just make another awards show.
It's not the people's choice awards for a reason...
The Dark Knight not getting nominated was a snub. Spider-Man was nowhere near The Dark Knight. Of course it wasn’t gonna get nominated. Love Kevin, but come on.
GTFO.
It’s not a snub. A movie not getting a nomination isn’t the same as it being snubbed.
Love Kevin Smith but sorry no. Black Panther shouldn’t even have been nominated for BP. The Oscars aren’t about mainstream audiences, they’re about the artists and cinephiles. The people who watch 4 movies a year aren’t people the Academy cares about.
Dune was a success and was actually good
That’s what comic con is for.
So what? The man just speaks his opinions. and Variety are starting to become real rags.
Sorry Kev. You can't regain your nerd cred this easily.
