From the director of the Nicolas Cage action horror film Willy's Wonderland comes The Accursed. The horror thriller centers on Elly, a young woman whose mother has recently died, but not before setting up a job with a family friend to care for their elderly client for a weekend in an isolated cabin. Once there, Elly begins to question the validity of her employer and the dark connection she has with her family.
What would you say was one of your biggest creative challenges in flexing those different muscles for this one? What was the casting process for this one, and how did you find the perfect people for all of these wonderful characters? Meg Foster is an iconic actor, especially for the genre. How did it feel for you when you got that confirmation that she was interested to be a part of it?
Kevin Lewis: Well, you know, it's funny, because when I read the script, I was like, “Gosh, this is a mini movie in itself,” which is awesome. I love films where things happen, and then you kind of forget about [them] and whatever, then at the end, it all comes back. That's what happens with this one, you set it up, you set the world up, but then you get out of that world, you start going on the journey with Elly and Beth and all that stuff.
They built the cabin in a gym, so I thought that was just awesome, and Burns, our production designer, he did such a fantastic job. He basically did the blueprints, and we built it, because I wanted to have access with the camera, so I can move walls and do the fun stuff. I didn't want to be hogtied to a practical location, and then we found the exterior of this house about 10-15 minutes away from our location in the gym, and it was just perfect.
