Can Mo Brooks close such a gap in the runoff?

, whose retirement opens up the very seat she’s running for - won a plurality of votes in 62 of Alabama’s 67 counties, and took home 45% of all votes cast in the primary - five percentage points short of avoiding a runoff. Brooks won the remaining five counties, but earned more than 100,000 fewer votes than Britt statewide.Britt won 45% of the vote with nearly 289,000 votes, compared to Brooks’ 188,000 votes, or 29%., earned 23% of the statewide vote, good for 150,000 votes. If Brooks can pick up most of those Durant votes in the runoff, the runoff could be close., Durant hinted that Britt would be a ‘train wreck’ if she won the seat, and previously said he would support Brooks between the two.

Roughly another 20,000 voters chose a candidate besides the top three, including Jake Schafer, Karla M. Dupriest and Lillie Boddie, who each earned about 1% of the vote. That leaves nearly 170,000 votes up for grabs.
