Kate Middleton and Prince William Are Taking the Platinum Jubilee on the Road

Town & Countrythey are also taking a trip to Wales, their former home, to help lead a weekend of celebrations for the queen’s Platinum Jubilee in early June.

Though most of the attention on the Platinum Jubilee has been focused on the June 2 family appearance on the Buckingham Palace balcony and who will——be on it, the schedule of events will continue for a few more days. Traditionally, the queen would travel around the United Kingdom over the weekend, accompanied by Prince Philip. Now, other working royals are taking over those trips. In addition to Kate and William’s trip to Wales,will travel to Northern Ireland.

“​​Over the course of the Central Weekend, Members of the Royal Family will visit the Nations of the United Kingdom to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee,” a Buckingham Palace statement read. “Members of the Royal Family will attend engagements in each nation, including public events marking the occasion.”

So far the specifics of the royals’s travel schedules have not been announced, but the royal trips around the U.K. might be planned to coincide with the series of Big Jubilee Lunches taking place across the country during the four-person bank holiday weekend. The trips around the countries that make up the United Kingdom will come on the heels of a few visits to Commonwealth nations where the queen is still head-of-state that failed to emphasize ongoing support for the monarchy.
