American Paul Whelan must stay in Russian prison through the end of May. His charges are still not clear.

By Amie Ferris-Rotman Amie Ferris-Rotman Moscow reporter for the Washington Post. Email Bio Follow March 14 at 11:38 AM MOSCOW — Paul Whelan, an American citizen imprisoned in Russia on spy charges, sharply criticized Russia’s handling of his case on Thursday and suggested he was being poorly treated at the Moscow prison where he has spent the past three months.

There are fears he is being interrogated. A citizen of four countries — Ireland, Canada and Britain, in addition to the United States — Whelan receives consular visits, but they are heavily restricted. Whelan looks out from a glass cell in a Moscow courtroom. “It seems fairly clear, although of course we don’t know, that [Paul] is being purposely isolated so that some sort of confession can be contrived and the Russians can save face,” Ryan Fayhee, a former Justice Department lawyer working pro bono for the Whelan family, told The Washington Post.

Though President Trump has yet to comment on Whelan’s detention, and the response from the State Department has been minimal, there is a growing chorus of discontent in Congress. The House of Foreign Affairs Committee has called Whelan’s detention “a blatant disregard of international law.”

Also, that quote from Ryan Fayhee was lifted from a previous article and isn't current. Please interview him agan for this story.

Thank you for writing about Paul Whelan, although I wish you had ended the piece on a more serious note! This is a horrible situation for him and his family to be in and we would hope US reporting would reflect the gravity of what is being done to him.

A wag the dog scam that lost its ability to distract.

I forgot about that guy. Well that trick went nowhere.

Course he has UK citizenship as well so the Ruskies get two for one.

To be released when RealDonaldTrump needs a boost in the polls, per usual Russian help.

You sound like you're advocating for and promoting Russia Probably the anemic Ivan Army could only last 7 to 8 days in the battlefield and then fold their cases of vodka and Retreat due to lack of Rubles Russia seems to *want* a war. Wonder why, with comrade agent orange currently in charge of the worlds most powerful fighting force. Something tells me this 'constant combat readiness' will go into standby when he's removed.

Judge sentences Trump ex-aide Manafort to nearly four years in prisonPresident Trump’s former campaign chairman Paul Manafort was sentenced to nearly four years in prison for financial crimes uncovered during Special Counsel Mueller’s Russia probe. Serious question to any moron who thinks this is a fair sentence: Would you or I have gotten the same sentence for the same crimes as Manafort? Ellis, who has been openly critical of the Russia investigation. Joy Reid and her panel discuss how Manafort’s light sentence has shocked many in the legal community and beyond. Sounds about white to me. . .
