District Court News

Kevin Young, one of three men present at a killing during a marijuana deal in 2012, was acquitted of murder Friday.

A Bexar County jury found a man not guilty of murder in a 12-year-old case in which someone else shot the victim. Kevin Young was charged in the killing of Rakim Tarik Charles , 23, in what prosecutors said was a drug deal turned robbery. But defense attorneys contended he was just along for the ride with two others who were trying to buy some marijuana, and that the shooting was an accident. The panel took three hours Friday to reject the charge.

Angry customer accused of firing shots near downtown The prosecutors said Young was guilty under the state’s “law of parties” because he participated in the drug deal that led to Charles’ death on July 16, 2012. Young was the last to be tried of three men accused of killing Charles. A co-defendant, Christopher Cooper, has died. A jury convicted Andre Antoine Dunn, 31, of murder in 2018 and he is serving a life sentence. Testimony in Young’s trial established that Dunn shot Charles.
