A Bexar County medical examiner testified at the murder trial of Kevin Young that the man Young is accused of helping kill possibly was paralyzed as he bled to death in a car. Dr. Stephanie Dreikorn , an assistant Bexar County medical examiner, told the jury on Thursday that Rakim Tarik Charles , 23, was shot in the upper right side of his back, just under the shoulder.
Testimony established that he had been contacted by his cousin, Laski Charles, who was then Young’s girlfriend, because the men wanted to buy some marijuana from him. Laski Charles has testified that Young told her that Dunn accidentally shot her cousin. Prosecutors allege that Young, though not the one who shot Charles, is guilty of murder under the “law of parties” because he was there and involved in the drug deal that led to the killing.
