Judge to decide if Barlow faces trial for murder, manslaughter or neither in boys' death

A judge will reveal Monday whether Kent Cody Barlow will face trial for first-degree murder, manslaughter, or neither in the deaths of two 3-year-old Eagle Mountain boys from over two years ago.

“Yesterday would have been Hunter’s kindergarten graduation; that was pretty emotional knowing he wasn’t there,” said Brooke Jackson, mother of Hunter Jackson. Hunter, along with his friend Odin Ratliff, died after a car crashed into a corral where the boys were playing on May 2, 2022., and was speeding more than 100 miles per hour when he lost control of the vehicle and struck the boys.

“We believe the evidence is for first-degree murder as opposed to manslaughter,” prosecutor Ryan McBride said on Friday. Defense attorney Ben Aldana argued against the murder charges in court. Outside the courtroom, he declined to comment.“It’s been two years, but no matter how long it takes, Hunter and Odin are still worth fighting for,” she said. “They deserve justice.”
