A judge in Portland, Ore., is proposing that the uniforms of federal agents responding to long-running protests and unrest in that city be emblazoned with easily visible numbers so officers can be easily identified if they commit abuses.
Simon said he was thinking of something like the jerseys professional sports players wear, minus the names, which he said would expose law enforcement officers to the threat of doxing by the public.or legal observers and also gives those categories of individuals the right to remain in areas even if authorities require the general public to disperse because of riotlike conditions.
During the telephone conference, Simon said he was troubled by both sets of allegations. He said some videos the plaintiffs presented do appear to show intentional targeting of the press. And he even publicly mulled the possibility of criminal contempt proceedings or a ban from the state for any agents who might defy his order.
But Simon also said there was some evidence that people were abusing the privileges he had accorded the press in his order. “There may be some people wearing press on their clothing and they’re engaging in unlawful acts,” said the judge, an appointee of President Barack Obama.
A Justice Department lawyer, Jordan Von Bokern, sounded unenthusiastic about the judge’s suggestion to emblazon the federal agents with big numbers.

Uniforms with numbers? DHS has a nasty record of losing track of people they numbered, like children separated, then lost. Give the Judge cross-numbered payroll data for IRS.

The idea of a bunch of feds wearing jerseys amuses me. But, I see the point in doing it. If they commit unlawful actions, they should be held accountable. If they aren't, then wearing it shouldn't be a problem.
Portland is a lost cause, thanks to judges like this. Bunch of spoiled brats carrying on all night and living high (literally) on the generous unemployment benefits we the tax-payers (who they despise) are providing.

This is a matter of accountability and civilian protection. These so called “officers” have an obligation to be visible and identifiable for the tactics that they use. Any action they take should be necessitated solely to protect civilian lives and rights.

U.S. District Court Judge Michael Simon should spend 1 week on the frontline with the Law Enforcement Officers, then report back. What an idiotic comment. Does a District Court Judge have that much say, I thought they did primarily traffic tickets.

This is a good idea for the rioters too. Perhaps police and rioters could go to a picture-ID registration site before each riot.
