The lawsuit seeks to force the Pentagon to proactively change so-called 'bad paper' discharges for veterans forced out during LGBTQ+ bans.

A federal lawsuit from LGBTQ+ veterans against the military over "bad paper" discharges overcame a major hurdle last week when a judge denied the Pentagon’s request to dismiss. KPBS military and veterans affairs reporter Andrew Dyer has more on what comes next.

The five named plaintiffs are asking the court to force the Pentagon to remove references to sexual orientation on the discharge papers for more than 35,000 veterans forced out of the military during the decades LGBTQ+ people were banned from service.
