Gov. Greg Abbott's directive would cause "irreparable injury," jeopardize noncitizens in federal custody and put agents at risk, the judge said.Jonathan Alpeyrie / Bloomberg via Getty Images fileA federal judge on Tuesday blocked Texas from enforcing an order from Gov. Greg Abbott that would restrict travel by undocumented immigrants.
Abbott issued the order last Wednesday, declaring that only law enforcement officials can provide transportation to immigrants who were detained for crossing the border illegally. He said that their movement around the state risked spreading the coronavirus and that many of the detainees have tested positive for the virus.
U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland wrote Abbott a day after the directive was issued, urging him to rescind the order or risk a federal lawsuit. When Abbott took no action, the Justice Department, arguing that the order"would severely disrupt federal immigration operations" in Texas. "The massive federal immigration operations in Texas depend heavily on the ability of the federal government and its contractors, grantees, and partners to transport noncitizens," the government said.
Texas please secede, and soon. We will let you go this time.
I saw Biden telling Cuomo to resign today and I was very proud that he stood up for women but then Cuomo sent out a tweet today where Biden what saying what a great man Cuomo is. So which is it!?
Good. It's fucked up that in 2021, Texas is trying to treat undocumented immigrants like sub-human. It's hilarious to me that good ol' freedom loving Texas passed a law that would restrict the travel of ANYONE. Guess it's fine, because they're not white, eh?
Lamda variant coming to you soon! Just came in from border. We need an administration that cares about our safety and our lives. They are going to ruin our country.
Good...this is not a dictatorship...yet.
