Texas abortion providers head to court today, seeking to offer the procedure for another month

that had previously protected the right to an abortion in the U.S., Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in a statement said he would support local prosecutors who use the old law to “immediately” enforce the 1925 ban., which provide transportation and other assistance to people seeking abortions, after they shuttered Friday citing concerns of criminal liability.

The state’s trigger law, which bans most abortions with a narrow exception for cases in which the mother’s life is at risk, is set to take effect 30 days from when the Supreme Court decision is certified. The certification process typically takes about 25 days after a ruling is issued. In their suit, lawyers for the clinics argue that the ban has been absent from Texas’ statutes since 1984 and point to a 2004 Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals decision that found that the 1925
