Reid hosted a segment Wednesday surrounding the reported crimes that occurred during the holiday. One example came out of Philadelphia, where a mass shooter killed five people and injured at least two others while wearing a bulletproof vest Monday night. Police reported the unidentified suspect fired the gun randomly at vehicles and pedestrians. Some 234 people died as a result of 547 shootings that occurred nationwide from Saturday to Tuesday, according to the Gun Violence Archive. The cities that saw the most shootings were Chicago with 41, Milwaukee with 23, and Washington, D.C., with 15. Twelve cities reported a third of the shootings.Sixteen of the shooting incidents were considered mass shootings per the GVA. This was a slight decrease from the 20 mass shootings in 2022 and the 21 mass shootings in 2021.
New York, which is the location of MSNBC headquarters and studios, saw 11 shootings over the weekend, including one mass shooting.
