José Ramírez returned from the MLB paternity list ahead of Tuesday's series opener against Seattle.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Kyle Manzardo grew up about five hours east of Seattle in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, but the rookie designated hitter will not be in the Guardians’ lineup when they open a three-game series at Progressive Field against the Mariners.

Cleveland activated five-time All-Star José Ramírez from the Major League Baseball paternity list and optioned Manzardo back to Triple-A Columbus prior to Tuesday’s game. Johnathan Rodriguez, who joined the club Saturday in Toronto when Ramírez left to await the birth of his third child, will remain in the big leagues despite not getting any at-bats during the weekend series in Canada.

Manzardo, 23, was promoted on May 6 and hit .207 in 87 plate appearances for Cleveland with 10 doubles and seven RBI. He appeared four times at first base and did not start a game in the field, logging seven total innings with four putouts and an assist in five total chances. During an eight-game stretch in late May, Manzardo hit .321 and doubled in four out of six games, including a two-double performance at Colorado on May 28. But in his last last 12 games, the left-hander hit .148 with a pair of extra-base hits and a .172 on-base percentage in 29 plate appearances.
