Making bad comments and users just a little bit harder to find in order to improve the user experience is apparently censorship on major platforms. On Peterson’s new site Thinkspot, it’s just quality control.

Photo: Chris Williamson/Getty Images Jordan Peterson, the Canadian academic whom I think I could absolutely describe as a “Dingus Supreme,” has a new idea for an online platform. This is very important to Peterson because he and his largely alt-right fan base need a safe space online to share controversial opinions and practice free thought.

On his podcast this week, speaking with guest Joe Rogan, Peterson outlined how he planned to keep Thinkspot from spiraling out of control: a minimum word count. “If minimum comment length is 50 words, you’re gonna have to put a little thought into it,” Peterson said, as recapped by the right-wing site NewsBusters. “Even if you’re being a troll, you’ll be a quasi-witty troll.

Shadowbanning used to mean that a user’s posts would remain visible to the user but were otherwise entirely hidden from the website. It’s a way of getting people to leave on their own by removing the feedback loop of getting reactions from other users.

The platform doesn’t get to decide what “improves” a user’s experience, though, at least not forever. It just makes the platform dull.

Isn't slashdot doing this for 2 decades already? It makes sense tho

Sounds like the difference is that the community decides who to hide rather than the moderators of tech companies.

Wow this writer hasnt done his job. Shadow banning is not hidden comments, there are real proven instances where it has happened to popular rightwingers/prolifers like steven crowder, live action, and ben shapiro. Absurd article.

What a hot take.

This tweet is indecipherable nonsense.

Headline says it's shadow banning, article says it's not shadow banning. Which is it?

Wow, a hugely dishonest piece about JBP, what a surprise. 'Shadowban?' you people are a joke

that is not journalism. gongratulation to the garbage human being who wrote this.

No, banning people from the platforms is censorship, what you are describing sounds like the nefarious practise of shadow-banning. What Thinkspot has planned sounds like something completely reasonable.

Michael Jordan Fans Commemorate Anniversary Of Remarkable ‘Flu Hanes Commercial’CHICAGO—Celebrating what many regard as the gutsiest and most memorable performance in advertising history, fans of NBA Hall of Famer Michael Jordan reportedly commemorated Tuesday’s 10-year anniversary of his legendary 2004 “flu Hanes commercial.” “He was battling a 103-degree fever that whole day, and you could tell he was in a lot of pain when he was trying to get through the line about the better fit and better feel of Hanes briefs,” said Kyle Flanagan, 43, adding that Jordan somehow managed to grind out over 20 takes for the 30-second spot despite experiencing severe nausea, dehydration, and chills. “He gave a great smile for the camera and winked before they cut to the Hanes logo, all while sweat just poured out of him. He was so weak that two people had to help him walk off the set when they were done, but it’s that kind of determination that makes him the best pitchman of all time. I’ll never forget watching it on TV—it was incredible.” Sources also confirmed that countless fans still suspect Jordan’s sickness may have actually been caused by food poisoning at the hands of rival undergarments brand Fruit of the Loom.
