Johnny Townsend: 'Too many members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints want to turn their personal decisions about their own lives into laws forcing everyone else to make the same decisions for theirs.'

But feeling offended isn’t the only reason I left. I also want to sin!

I want to watch R-rated movies and TV shows with sex and language warnings. “Schindler’s List.” “The Accused.” “Maurice.” “Wind River.” “The Handmaid’s Tale.” “The Lives of Others.” I want to read inappropriate books. Even if they contain four-letter words. Or awkward history. Or challenging questions.Even if advocating for fairness and justiceJust as we have the right to be baptized or refuse baptism, the right to be married in the temple or instead at City Hall, to attend church or go fishing, I believe we have free agency in secular matters as well.

I support the right of people to acknowledge their gender and make decisions about their own bodies, even when it pertains to their genitals. I may not “approve” of someone’s tattoos or piercings, but what they do with their own body is really none of my business. Just becauseToo many members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints want to turn their personal decisions about their own lives into laws forcing everyone else to make the same decisions for theirs.God rejected.

Leaders of the LDS Church claim they don’t want to be involved in politics but do feel obligated to speak on “moral” issues. Yet what qualifies?

They always preach that their politics are government deregulation, and then they regulate everything.

C’mon everyone relax, everyone knows the Trib is a liberal rag that publishes click bait to try and stir the pot. It’s the only strategy they have… it’s either that or go bankrupt. Journalism as a career continues to lose status… its now even below Realtors.

Literally the opposite of what we believe 😂😂😂

Yes, as an active member all of my life, I agree.

As if the church has exclusivity on pushing their beliefs or agenda. Why are we in a society where we have to pick our master these days? Because make no mistake, everyone wants to tell you how to live.

So why is Johnny at stirring the pot to get noticed? We live in a representative Gov. So the laws are what they are. Option 1: Deal with it. 2. You can kindly exit to the East or West & enjoy the full compliments of liberal socialist living. Be free my friend.

Offense is a choice. Sin is a choice. ALL choices come with consequences. As long as you are willing to deal with the consequences, sin away. You free to choose. But consequences will always follow eventually.

Must be getting tough for the when they keep posting lame repeat stories. Digging deep are we?

Too many uh nonmembers of Ch_JesusChrist WANT TO DEMEAN AND FORCE uh our Church to shut up AND CHANGE OUR Beliefs and Policies huh

Creating a utopian society is a great idea if everyone thinks exactly the same. Since that is almost never the case, people need to learn tolerance. I think Trump has fooled a lot of people into believing that making America great means not needing to tolerate diversity.

Who at the allows this nonsense to be published? It’s just bizarre. I have no idea what he’s talking about on most matters here and I’ve been a member of Ch_JesusChrist for 50+ years. Yet I’m sure it sells newspapers, especially in SLC.

I don’t know a single person in the church that feels this way. We have no desire to tell people how to live their lives just don’t infringe your lifestyle on us. It does, however, sound like the author of this article could use some mental health services. It’s a bit unhinged.

It’s incredible gymnastics to hide behind freedom of religion from government interference and to believe in a religious state run government

Took the words right out of my mouth.

Funny how those who pretend to want agency always want it without due consequence.

Church who claims we have free agency wants to make sure they control yours.

It’s not a sin to live your life the way you see fit.
