New rental housing is being built all the time, but the vast majority of that new housing is relatively expensive. Since 1990, the total number of U.S. rental units has risen by more than 13 million. The total number of very affordable rental units, however, has dropped by almost 4 million. One result of this bullshit is that landlords are now able to charge more money because there’s too little housing available.
Even people lucky enough to get Section 8 vouchers often have trouble finding housing because landlords who say they accept vouchers won’t actually rent to people with vouchers, whether it’s because the landlords discriminate against lower income people — this is technically illegal in many places — or don’t want to deal with government red tape.
SerenityFoods cue the guy who says “you just need 2 move 2 “tiny town in the middle of nowhere w/no jobs, shops, broadband or public transportation” never mind that moving is really expensive in & of itself, this guy thinks “you’re spoiled cuz u actually want A TOWN, not some ghost outpost”
wanna pay it?
Knew it was rent control before I even looked. Socialists only have one bag of tricks, and it's the one designed to make everything infinitely worse.
I'm still waiting for the solution and I mean one that's going to work. Seriously, not all the landlords and I say this as someone who rents. Totally f****** ridiculous. Tell this to people who live in 3 Day quit to evict States. Your ass out on the street in 3 days. Then what?
iamjohnoliver Maybe journalists and John Oliver should address the issue at its core. Landlords are trying to maintain their lifestyle. Look into policy and governance that has us here. But no, you all would rather us non-elites fight amongst each other. Feigned sincerity. Gross

Garbage take. You think socialist housing means your OWN private apt LOL! It means shared rooms with strangers that govt randomly assigns.
I'm going to be dead in two weeks because I only get $653 a month from SSDI a month and there's nothing available in Michigan that I can afford. I hope to find a decent home for my cat Meela though I always promised mommy would always come home to her.
One thing you left out, realtor on TV, buying all over. Purchase houses and then rent them out. In established neighborhoods. BlockOutBuyers. They hire Goofballs and illegal workers to paint and do maintenance on the houses. They've already invaded Indy, info from aGoofball
John Oliver is gay as hell
No, he doesn't.
John Oliver *is* a landlord.
Rent too damn high and cities are designed for cars so you need a car to get around. America is so goddamn broken
He could literally do about $34 million things about it....
Investment firms is whats causing it
John Oliver
It's always interesting when the far left media completely ignores who gave these institutional investors a start on third base 10 years ago
Ok British comedian , mind your own business .. i think your tv show price is too high too!
figured it's worth mentioning that the guy in this video does not at all represent all rush fans 💀 embarrassing...
The housing and rental market will be collapsing soon, along with the economy. Just wait a year or 2.
What if my landlord doesn’t watch John Oliver?
Worked hard to afford to live in a cool building in a prime spot in a fun city. But sure if you whiners want to lower my rent go for it lol
So John Oliver can but high rent has nothing to do with Biden eh? 😂
RENT IS TOO DAMN HIGH
He was laughed and mocked now look at the situation
Yet, this segment barely even acknowledges Single Family Zoning, which is the main cause of this crisis.
RemiliaGrimm John Oliver: Bravely calling out the ways capitalism is a literal horror while far too craven to actually explain the root cause of these issues so liberals don't have to reassess the exploitation that they benefit from! Hooray!
This is all a result of private equity and hedge funds buying up a majority of the houses that come on the market. Since people are unable to compete in that market they have to rent. So these vultures turn right around and put the screws on them when it comes to that.

And then you get evicted. Happening now. So sick.
