to discuss the difficulties road teams face in Lubbock, the impact of the win against Texas and more. It’s surprising it’s been so long since the Red Raiders beat Texas in Lubbock. What makes playing in Lubbock so difficult?“I was surprised too. I didn’t know that until after the game until Matt told me. And I was surprised because it’s such a tough place to play.
“Coming here early I got to see the Iowa State and Oklahoma State game I could tell when you can get this thing going and the Red Raiders respond and get behind you there were 60,000+ people in the stands and they were fired up. I was so proud of our fans too because 31-17 nobody left. It was warm. The sun was hitting that east side pretty good and nobody left. They stayed and got behind us the entire time.
“The environment is very loud. There’s usually tortillas flying when good things are happening so I think there’s this intimidation factor and it’s a tough place to play. We’re just going to keep creating that atmosphere.”“It’s huge. You start out talking about my high school friends and I had 500+ texts on one phone and the other had 300. Most of them were high school coaches. Most of them were buddies that I coached with, guys that know how important it is for me.
“For Texas Tech it’s huge. We had 14 of our commits here that got to watch the game. However many tickets you get for recruiting you couldn’t get any more. It was packed on the recruiting side. It was really big for those guys to see the environment. We’ve been telling them we had a big unofficial weekend when we played Mississippi State in basketball. There were 15,000 people there no matter who we played in basketball it sold out. I said just wait until you see this environment with 60,000.
